For the past month, Station 52 members, alongside partners from Upper Salford Fire Company (Station 78), have sharpened skills relating to vehicle extrication. Companies reviewed various tactics relating to vehicle stabilization, extrication, and refreshed patient packaging / initial care.

These trainings built up to a real speed scenario, that took place Thursday May 21st, utilizing two vehicles that were donated. Crews were "dispatched" to the report of a "Vehicle Accident with Rescue," and given no additional information. Engine 52 responded first, followed by Squad 78, who completed an initial scene size-up. These size ups identify hazards associated with the accident, number of patients entrapped, along with any additional information pertinant to the rescue. The crews began with stabilizing the vehicles, and then used hydraulic rescue tools to remove the doors. Further complicating the situation, one vehicle required the roof to be removed, which is another tactic crews can utilize to effectively extricate patients.

Lower Frederick Fire Company would like to extend a thank you to the township resident and Lower Frederick Police Department, who each donated a vehicle for this training. We also would like thank Borough Councilmen Tom Slater, his wife Karen, Fire Company President Harley Heckler, Lower Frederick Police, and the township resident who spectated our training Thursday evening, getting a up-close look at the fire company operations.

During training, Ladder 52 responded to Upper Providence Township to assist on a Commercial Fire in the 1000 block of Main St. First arriving companies encountered a greenhouse on fire, with no exposures. Ladder 52's crew assisted with returning apparatus to service, before returning.

Finally, LFFC extends a thank you to Eastern Enviromental Contractors, and Robert Slater INC for the use of their equipment to set up this training.
